Here the best possible language for the entanglement rate study:
"Preliminary results from a collaborative study by the Marine Education and Research Society and DFO are that ~50% of Humpback Whales off British Columbia’s coast have scarring resulting from entanglement.”
This does not mean we have data for 600 Humpbacks (and there are more Humpbacks than that who feed off our coast). It means that for who we have taken tail stock photos, approximately half have entanglement scarring.
