Departure Checklist
To ensure that your sailing experience aboard CS 27 is both safe and fun, the following information has been provided to help you achieve this goal. The information should be viewed prior to departure to ensure both correct and safe operation of the boat and also ensure that the boat is properly rigged for maximum efficency for the weather conditions.
Safety Checks: In the event of an emergency the following safety equipment should be on this boat. PFD life jackets and horse shoe life jacket, life line to be attached to stern rail in cockpit; locate and check horn, locate flares, first aid kit paddle and boarding ladder.
Plumbing: Locate and check operation of bilge pump, locate and check Note: BEFORE SAILING ensure that the TWO VALVES under the forward bunk are closed.
If you are embarking on an overnight or long trip ensure you have enough water on board.
Engine: Check gas level and top up as necessary to cover your journey, check gas lines for leakage. For correct operation and starting the engine, please refer to the motor section of this manual. If there is any problems with the engine do not take the boat out with contacting the fleet captain or maintenance staff first (See emergency numbers sheet)
Radio: Switch on the radio, select channel 16, and carryout radio check prior to departure. Please refer to the radio section of this manual. If there is any problems with the radio do not take the boat out with contacting the fleet captain or maintenance staff first (See emergency numbers sheet)
Electrical Systems: Check battery tester for correct voltage, check all electrical circuits for correct operation and lighting sequence please refer to the electrical section of this manual. If there are any problems with the battery and electrical systems do not take the boat out with contacting the fleet captain or maintenance staff first (See emergency numbers sheet).
Water is filled on the bow about 20 liters.
Bilge Pump is Automatic and extra “ DEMAND” switch .
Bailer is in the cockpit lazaret , if you have more than 4 " of water and the siphon hose is in it then the pump works. Otherwise use the wash bucket to bail it out.
Weather: Check weather conditions, via the radio channel 04, based on the weather conditions ensure you have the correct head sail.
Genoa 135% 0 – 12 Knots full main,
Jib 125% 12-25 knots full main 20-25 knots reefed main
Storm Jib 25 Knots and above; double reefed main
Miscellaneous:
Check operation of both main and head sail, remove main sail cover remove sail ties pull on main halyard check hosting of sail, halyard clam-cleat and winch lower sail and retie with mainsail ties. Connect foresail to forestay, attach foot clue to spring catch located at forestay, attach foresail lines to leach clue and run back to cockpit via fairlead blocks to forestay pulleys, check operation of pulleys. Connect foresail halyard and hoist sail for correct operation Bag foresail and lock into position via foredeck bungee. Ensure boom stay is connected to boom. Check all other lines for correct operation and securing.
